Title Breaking Point Part 21 (finally)

Summary Grant finally wakes up.
authors note: sorry this took so long to post. i have had horrible computer problems since moving to the new place.
The doctors said that Grant was getting better but when we went to visit him we discovered he is beginning to run a fever. Kris and Dave went to find his doc and Steve is trying to help me cool him down and calm him down. He sounds like he is having a wicked nightmare.
Jason “Grant? G! buddy its Jay you really need to calm down and stop fighting us.”
Steve “damn Jay he is really fighting us.”
I’m being held down. I have to fight. I have to get away. Can’t let this happen again. I have to get home to Re and the boys.
Steve “whatever nightmare he is having it must be a whopper. He is fighting like he is fighting the devil himself. Poor guy keeps calling out Reannes name keeps saying he needs to get home.”
Poor guy I wonder if on some lever he doesn’t already know that she’s gone. Oh good Kris is back with the doc.
Dr. Stevenson “I understand that Mr. Wilson seems to be suffering from a small fever.”
Steve“yeah doc he’s burning up and freaking out on us.”
Dr. Stevenson“ok. I’m going to need everyone to wait outside while I examine him.”
Jason“ok doc, please take care of him. We need him. I need him.”
Jason“GW I’ll be right outside in the hallway so will Kris and Steve. We’ll be right back as soon as doc here says its ok. G. you gotta get better soon.”
KrisGrant was so freaked out when we got to his room you could hear his cries through the door and Jason just knew something was wrong. He couldn’t get into the room fast enough. We found him in the throes of a pretty nasty nightmare and burning up, I have never seen Jay so scared before. Just as I finish that thought I hear someone hit the wall and lookup to see Jay nursing his hand.
Kris“Jay I know you are scared but honey the doc is with him. You need to calm down your going to be the next one who needs to be examined. Remember you are still healing yourself you know you can’t keep pushing yourself; you won’t be helping yourself or him if you land right back in the hospital again. Hell you still haven’t been officially released from your first visit here.”
Steve“Jay Kris is right Grant is going to need you. You need to calm down and chill”
In Grants room
Dr. Stevensondamn damn damn this poor guy just can’t seem to catch a break. He seemed to be doing so well. He was responding to the antibiotics the surgery went well not much in the way of complications then this. How did the assistants and the nurses miss this when they were changing his bandages? Hopefully this is the only site of infection and we caught it before it went septic. I’ll have to talk to the nurses about being extra careful at this point if it did go septic he won’t survive the infection. Hell even if it doesn’t his odds still suck for recovery. I hate telling family and friends this type of news.
Outside in the hallway
DaveI know I can’t help so I am just hanging back behind Steve out of the way. I mean I am worried about Jay and scared for Grant but I am not a medical professional so I yield to their experience. Right now I am just sure of one thing if Jay keeps this up he’s going to need a doc soon himself.
Steve“doc how is he?”
Dave“doc?”
Jason“when can we see him?”
Dr. Stevenson“first he is sedated so that his system can get a break. Second he seems to have developed a fever from a very serious infection which sad to say is not a total surprise due to the injuries to his kidney and spleen. We had him on an antibiotic however the infection was stronger then the antibiotic prescribed so I am going to change the dosage and add another and hopefully this will kick it.”
Dr. Stevenson“now yes you can see him just try and let him sleep as much as possible. I am going to leave a note with the nurse’s station that you are allowed to stay with him as long as it does not disturb my patient.”
Kristhe doc let us back into Grants room. I thought he looked bad last time I saw him now he looks so drawn and sickly it is scary. I know Jay is scared and worried about Grant. He’s doesn’t want him left alone incase Bell returns.
He keeps tossing and turning but so far he still hasn’t woken up. He also keeps mumbling and calling out I keep talking to him but he isn’t hearing me. I doubt he really knows if anyone is here. I sent Jay back to his room about an hour ago to get some rest himself.
Steve“Kris if you and jay want to take a break Dave an I can stay with Grant.””maybe check on Jay?”
Kris “no I’m fine and the doc told Jay he could only come back if he rested. So if I go back and check on him he’s just going to insist on coming back here with me.”
Dave“Grants really out of it isn’t he?”
Kris“yeah. Doc said that there isn’t much more that medical science can do for him. The infection is just too strong and the antibiotics aren’t working.”
Kris“Jay is so stressed out . the doc said that if Grant’s fever goes up any higher he might start having seizures.”
Dave“Seizures really oh man that is so not good.”
Kris“I know Jay is worried that his system won’t be able tohandle it after the beating and the surgery.”
Steve“Kris I know you r worried about Jay and Grant but you need to take some time for you. Go back to the hotel take a shower; change into some fresh clothing maybe lie down for a bit you’ll feel like a new person. One ready to take on the annoyance that is Jason.”
Kris “ok you make a compelling argument I’ll take a break see you two in a bit.”
Grants room 2 hours later
Jason “how can Steve and Dave sleep in those chairs? I mean they are out cold. They should have gone back to the hotel and slept in real beds. For that matter, so should you Kris. You have been up for what 2 days straight now? First watching over me and now Grant.”
Kris “I’m fine Jay. Its easier than you think to sleep in one of these chairs. How about you? You need to rest yourself your still recovering from your own injuries you know.”
Jason “yeah I know. I just can’t leave not til he’s away and I mean really awake. I don’t want that bastard anywhere near him and I do not want him finding out about Reanne from him.”
Kris “have you thought about how we should break the news to him?”
Jason “no. truthfully I am having a real problem trying to wrap my brain around this. And what do you mean WE?”
Grant “around what Jay”
Jason “GRANT”
I nearly fall out of the chair as I bend over the bed to see two very doped up eyes blinking slowly at up at me.
Jason “G, you awake?”
Grant “what happened?”
Kris “do you remember what happened Grant?”
Grant “Kris? Jay? What is going on?”
Kris “what is the last thing you remember?”
Grant “I’m not sure I was at a diner and having breakfast?”
Jason “do you remember seeing the art exhibit?”
Grant “I think so , vaguely, we stopped somewhere afterward didn’t we?”
Jason “yeah we stopped at a corner marketonly thing that was near the exhibitwanted to get directions back to the hotel even though I was pretty sure I knew how to get back. I didn’t want to get lost, you were looking a bit tired and we had been up early so I was hoping to see if there was cab service or a bus that ran from that area back to the hotel quicker than walking.”
Grant “what happened?”
Jason “ I told you to wait outside I’d be right back and entered the store. I didn’t see the clerk so I figured he might be restocking the shelves or freezer and went looking for him and interrupted a robbery in progress apparently. The robber shot me in the shoulder before I could do or say anything. About a minute later I saw you in the isle and saw the robber shoot you in the stomach. I couldn’t believe it. I was sure you were dead; there was way too much blood. It was horrible.”
Grant “you ok?”
Jason “yeah G, I’m healing up just fine. Ask Kris she wouldn’t let me visit you otherwise.”
Grant “Kris is here?”
Ok Grant is apparently having some short-term memory problems he just spoke to Kris like a minute ago.
Kris “right here honey. So are Steve and Dave. We haven’t left the hospital since you guys were admitted.”
Grant “did anyone call Reanne?”
Kris and I share a look over the bed Grant doesn’t need to know right this moment.
Kris “Grant honey don’t worry about anything you need to rest right now. We’ll talk more later.”
Grant “Jay there is something your not telling me. Something is wrong isn’t it?”
Jason “Grant right now you need to stay calm and rest honestly you’re a mess. You were a mess before being shot and I’m never going to forgive myself for not noticing it and dragging you to a hospital immediately as in as soon as I knew something was wrong.”
Grant “what are you talking about?”
Jason “according to the doctor you were a mess before being shot. You had a broken wrist, dislocated shoulder, broken collarbone, broken ribs, and internal bleeding from both a lacerated kidney and a ruptured spleen. The doc was shocked that you were up and walking around before being shot. Grant why didn’t you trust me enough to tell me that you were being hurt?”
Grant “I-I-I didn’t realize it was so bad. I was pretty much trying to block it all out.”
Jason “Grant you should know I had to tell Kris, Steve and Dave about Bell.”
I cringe at the look on his face, God I never want to hurt him like this again but I will won’t I when I tell him about Reanne. I don’t know if our friendship can handle two such betrayals.
Grant “what do you mean you told them about Bell?”
I can’t breathe. He promised. He promised not to tell anyone ever about what I told him. I never should have said anything. Now Kris is going to tell Reanne and she is going to be disgusted. God what if she divorces me. I can’t survive without her or the kids. Why would he lie to me? What would have possessed him to tell them anything?
Jason “Grant we were all barred from seeing you the doc had called the cops and reported the rape. I had to tell them the truth. I had to tell them everything especially since Bell is here in GA.”
WHAT what does he mean Bell is here in Georgia we left him back in Rhode Island didn’t we?
Jason “Grant please calm down if you don’t the nurse will come in a sedate you again.”
Grant “what is Bell doing here? We left him back in Warwick did we?”
Jason “G that really isn’t important right now. You need to calm down and rest before the nurse comes back and throws us out.”
Grant “no! please don’t leave me alone.”
Kris “we won’t honey but you need to rest. Trust us. Please.”
